"Future OS X Versions May Run Windows" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-13 05:11:53

A man named Steven Edwards notes in a mailing list message that Leopard contains a loader for portable executables. The loader was undocumented. He added that the loader tries to find Windows DLL files when loading a Windows binary. If Apple plans to use this function one day then it means that people no longer have to buy additional software such as Boot Camp to run a Windows program that they want on their Apple computer. "Microsoft: You Need a New Marketing Department" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-08-01 11:08:28

Has anyone else noticed that Microsoft’s marketing department has jumped right off the deep end? I mean common. How many different version of Vista do we really need? Microsoft needs to simplify things a bit when it comes to their “flagship” product. Windows Vista. bequeath back in the good old days when an operating system had just 1 version? This was the case up until (and including) Windows 2000 (not counting server versions) and is still the case today with Mac OS X. Windows Vista has 6 distinct versions (not counting the extra European “N” versions). What in holy hell is Microsoft thinking here? I contend anyone to name the differences between these 6 versions. Anyone? What Microsoft needs to do is go back to the XP versioning. You have 1 home version and 1 business version. Done. No complications. Don’t have “special” versions that consider Texas Hold ‘em Poker. Common Microsoft. And why on earth is the “Ultimate” version $500 Canadian? I can buy a computer for less than that. An operating system should NEVER be more than the hardware it’s running on. Microsoft wonders why people pirate their software? Well. I think I just gave you the $500 answer. If Microsoft really wants to get serious about piracy and sell more copies of Vista they should eliminate all the home versions except Ultimate and lower the price to $99. Sure it costs 1/5 the price but I pledge that they will sell more than 5x the number they do now. $500 is just ridiculous. Visual Studio. I’m looking in your direction next. Why are there 11 different versions of Visual Studio? I mean common Microsoft. You’ve got 4 “express” versions that are of no use to people like me. Then the next step up is the $300 “standard” version. However this version has enough deficiencies to make it nearly unusable for real development and testing. No remote debugging? Common. For that feature you need to fork out $800 for the “professional” version. That’s well out of my price range but contains the functionality that I desperately need to properly test and write applications. What happened to “developers developers developers”? Is that motto dead now? The next go up from the “professional” version are 4 “team suite” versions each costing $5,500. Yes you read that alter. $5,500 for a development environment. Can anyone say LOL? The king daddy of the team suite costs $11,000. That’s unreal. You really need to alter here. Microsoft. Get rid of the standard version and severely reduce the price of the professional version. Either integrate all the team suites into 1 package for my $5,500 or reduce the price below $1,000 each. I guess the moral of the story here is if you want to decrease piracy don’t assume everyone is rich. How much do I make from my software development? Almost nothing. It would take me about 3 years to save up enough money to buy the pro version of Visual Studio if I only used the money that I made on my personal software. So that means I’m stuck using egest versions of Visual Studio at home but at least I get to see what I’m missing while I’m at work using an over-priced version. I’m a really casual developer having never written anything good enough to quality as “give–awayable” so I’m not really sure what features are missing from the convey editions that quality this statement? I’ve always though they were genuinely functional products that simply didn’t offer all the “team” development options that I as a one–man developer only ever found confusing or filled the menu with options I’d never click? To think. I’ve downloaded the and was looking forward to installing them and doing some. NET 3.5 developing for free and now I conclude I’ve wasted my bandwidth and I’m gutted The Express editions are great for getting started but I just wish they offered a bit more. For example the express versions don’t support IDE plugins. 64 bit builds mobile devices or source control. You need to grade to the Standard edition to get those goodies which are all things that I use. The thing that really annoys me is that there are hardly any differences between Standard and Pro yet there is a $500 price difference. The only thing I really be with the pro version is the remote debugging which is critical when trying to troubleshoot problems with different operating system or system configurations. However that $500 is way out of my price range so I’m just left dreaming. You can sight an excellent comparison of the Visual Studio 2005 editions here:

"What versions are now covered" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 13:43:43

Hi Folks. I experience I should experience the say somewhere but precisley what versions of transfer and sharepoint are now covered if a customer either has already got SBS2003 (not R2) or is buying it today with/without SA. cerebrate for the question is that we are just re-doing our own server and I be to try to be as up to date as possible whilst at the same time being in line with what a customer can undergo with the standard price.(challenge is really aimed at sharepoint and exchange). Ta. Mike I think what he's looking for is confirmation that:SBS 2003 R2 includes:Exchange 2003Sharepoint 2.0Buying SA for your SBS will not currently give you a later product/version for the SBS 2003 R2 platform but you would get whatever comes out in Cougar (aka SBS 2008: Is says so on Wikipedia so it must be true?)You may load Sharepoint 3.0 on an SBS (because it's remove) but you really can't load Exchange 2007 because it's x64. Cougar (according to MS) is going to include Exchange 2007. Sharepoint 3.0 (funny it's not a year eh?). These rumors are available to affirm on MS place and Wiki: SBSmigration com IT Pro Conference 2008"Transition Strategies: Migrations. Upgrades and Services"3-Days cut Quarter. 5-Days Caribbean CruiseNew Orleans - May 9-17. 2008 Yes sorta. Sharepoint 3 is not shipped with SBS 2003 R2 it is allowed on an SBS but they don't give give for integrating it or assistance in migrating from 2.0 to 3.0. I experience a number of people have introduced it to run align by side with 2.0. SBSmigration com IT Pro Conference 2008"Transition Strategies: Migrations. This blog is used by the Configuration Manager Writing aggroup to keep you informed about the content we are writing the availability of new documents updates to documents and other news. This blog is also intended to hive away feedback from you our customers about existing circumscribe and what you'd like to see in the future. This blog is not intended to provide technical give. I get in around 8:30 after dropping my kid off at educate and I do a quick email triage. I had an email from my buddy. Garth Jones asking if the chm on the product DVD was missing some flowcharts. Uh oh. I don’t desire getting emails desire that. Especially before I'm fully awake. I went up to the server where the builds live and sure enough in the final version in the release to manufacturing (RTM) version dated Jul 20 there are no graphics to be found. Period. Flowcharts conceptual art nada. I am feeling pretty sick at this point. I checked back a few builds. The release candidate (RC) create dated July 2 looks fine. Then I go back to checking my telecommunicate. There’s another one from Conan Kezema same question as Garth. Well they’re working together on the course for ConfigMgr so it makes sense that they would both notice around the same measure. (Totally cool – they undergo some troubleshooting labs that compose the flowcharts!) But now I'm really pounding my keys: @#(*$@)!(*#!%&$(&)#&%$$#^&@ Later in the day I hear approve from our Release Manager. She replays some mail around the time we handed off where she noted that the register size had shrunk. We had identified that the art was missing but when a tester went into affirm it it looked fine. And it was – in See we work in an authoring drive where we use evince (really aDoc) for the lie end and there is some XML magic in the back end. In June we locked down the doc set because we had to hand it off to the translators to get the localized versions of the help. At that time we branched the back-end database holding our lovely XML topics. The Loc version was frozen for the translators to translate but we could go back to work in the Main branch so we could create the circumscribe for the August web update that went live when the product RTMd. So that’s what happened. We caught it but we incorrectly thought we fixed it. What we should have done is one more visual check after it was in the build and we didn’t. That’s the bad news. The good news is we have a chm hotfix ( that will furnish you 6 months worth of updated content plus all of the missing art (and some new art that was added after RTM.) The other good news is we are in the final stages of getting our International versions released and it looks desire we caught this in measure to verify the art in those versions. All of the translated versions had the right art except the Korean and Chinese Traditional versions which displace with the English content. But Conan and Garth caught this with just enough time to get it fixed on those DVDs. Three cheers for Garth and Conan!
